Hospice Memorial Service

Hospice Memorial Service

Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Services, Mahaska Hospice Auxiliary and Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel are teaming up to present a Community Memorial Service on Wednesday, May 25 at 7 pm.

The Community Memorial Service will be held at the west end of the MHP Hospice Serenity House on the north side of MHP’s campus. According to Shawn Langkamp, one of the organizers of the event, MHP Hospice Services, Mahaska Hospice Auxiliary and Garland-Van-Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel staff and volunteers invite anyone in the community who has lost someone near and dear to them to join us in the service. “It will be a time of remembering, honoring and encouraging,” Langkamp explained.

The service will include a message of inspiration and hope by Pastor Dennis Morey, music, refreshments and a tree planting and dedication on the Serenity House grounds. Langkamp said Blue Spruce seedlings will also be given to those in attendance.

“The staff and volunteers recognize the meaningfulness and healing power that sharing of memories can play in the grieving process,” Langkamp said. “Our purpose in holding the Community Memorial Service is to give participants a time to focus on the life and memory of their loved one and to take that memory and turn it into inspiration and hope for tomorrow.”
