Keokuk Hospice Volunteer of the Year

Keokuk County Hospice Volunteer of the Year

Rev. John Hembry of Sigourney was recently named “Volunteer of the Year” for Keokuk County Hospice, a service of Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa.

Rev. Hembry received this honor at a Volunteer Recognition Ceremony, hosted by the Hospice & Palliative Care Association of Iowa on Sept. 13, in Urbandale.  He has been volunteering with Keokuk County Hospice since 2004, along with serving as pastor of the Sigourney United Methodist Church.

According to Kathy Abrams, MHP Volunteer Coordinator for Keokuk County Hospice, Rev. Hembry willingly gives of his time to provide spiritual insight when chaplain services are requested. “Keokuk County Hospice is extremely fortunate to have Rev. Hembry as one of our hospice chaplains.  Our patients and family members greatly appreciate his kind, compassionate presence as he reads scripture, counsels, and prays with patients as they come to life’s end.

“Our chaplains are a very important part of our hospice team as we assess the physical, mental, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of each patient.  Keokuk County Hospice is very grateful to Rev. Hembry for his wisdom, faith, and commitment in serving our hospice patients and their families,” Abrams stressed.
