MHP Hospice Services to offer FREE Treasured Memories Support Group

Memorializing a loved one in photos and mementos can be therapeutic for a person recovering from a loss. The Treasured Memories Support Group offered by Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Services will be a time for people experiencing a loss to create a free scrapbook about their loved one.

“A scrapbook is a wonderful way to honor a loved one and provides a treasured keepsake that can be enjoyed for years to come,” MHP Hospice Services Social Worker Julie Glass said.

The Treasured Memories Support Group is for anyone grieving the loss of a loved one, regardless of how long it has been. “The grieving process is different for everyone,” Glass said. “Some recover fairly quickly while others never fully adjust. Some people are not ready to face happy memories until many years have passed, so all adults are welcome.”

The support group is free and all scrapbooking supplies will be provided. The group will meet for eight consecutive Wednesdays, beginning September 8, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the conference room of the MHP Hospice Serenity House. The Serenity House is located on the far north side of the MHP campus at 630 North 12th Street, Oskaloosa.

“Our goal for this group is to help people who are grieving celebrate the life of their loved one by creating a memory book that will last a lifetime,” Glass said. “Memory books can be very helpful to those who are mourning a loss. The process of sorting through pictures and telling stories helps people in working through their grief.”

Although participation in the group is free, pre-registration is requested to determine the number of supplies needed. To register for the Treasured Memories Support Group, contact Glass at 641-672-3260. For more information on MHP Hospice Services, visit our website at mahaskahealth.org.
