Mahaska Health Partnership added a da Vinci Xi Robotic Surgical System in 2015. The equipment represents the most advanced surgical robot available at the time and furthers MHP’s mission to link the science of medicine with the humanity of compassionate care.
Robotically-assisted surgeries are becoming the standard of care. The da Vinci Xi Surgical System was introduced in 2014 and is the fourth generation of da Vinci, bringing together the accomplishments of previous models with new enhancements and functionality.
Although the term robot usually implies an independently functioning machine; the da Vinci robot is merely a tool used by surgeons to treat patients. Similar to a scalpel, laparoscope or camera; the da Vinci simply enhances the surgeons’ ability to operate in a more minimally invasive way than ever before. The same doctors, nurses and staff are in the operating room just like traditional surgical procedures.
