Education Requirements: Bachelor or Associate degree in a chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution. Certification by an accredited agency as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) / Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) (ASCP, AMT or equivalent), current or within One year of hire. Successfully completed clinical laboratory internship (minimum of 3 months) or three months of equivalent work experience or combination of both.
List of Duties: Interacts with patients, providers and coworkers in a positive, courteous manner to provide the patient with a very good experience. Responsible for performing waived and moderate and if qualified, high complexity laboratory tests for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Perform diagnostic and monitoring tests on blood, urine, feces, cerebrospinal fluid, peritoneal fluid, synovial fluid, pleural fluid, and other body fluids. Evaluate results of testing and quality controls, calibrations, calibration verification/linearity/reportable range. Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections using, proper patient identification, correct tubes, handling and labeling appropriately. Understand, perform, analyze, and record quality control tests for each procedure including action taken to correct or prevent problems. Able to recognize deviations from expected results and analyze problems on scientific principles. Collect and prepare non-blood specimens for testing. Process specimens and reports to and from reference laboratories.
