Education Requirements: A graduate from an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa (or) a graduate from an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed as a Registered Nurse able to work in the state of Iowa. Two or more years experiences as a Registered Nurse in acute care. BSN is preferred.
Job Requirements: Basic Knowledge of The Joint Commission and other regulatory compliance preferred. Candidate without Infection Prevention experience must be willing to complete an approved course on infection prevention within 6 months of hire Certifications in infection prevention as soon as possible following hire date. Complete all competencies required for RNs at MHP.
List of Duties: The IP/Standards Coordinator is able to perform all essential job functions of an RN at MHP. Fulfill all requirements of the Infection Prevention regulations from the Joint Commission and CMS. Provide information to the quality committee as requested and as necessary to ensure the standard of practice in infection prevention. Updates the quality committee on changes in infection prevention practices. Completes all requests from the committee in a timely manner. Develops and implements the Infection Prevention Plan for MHP under the direction of the Quality Committee. The IP/Standards Coordinator will monitor and evaluate the quality and appropriateness of patient care as well as encourage all departments to pursue opportunities to improve patient care and monitor the resolution of identified issues. The IP/Standards Coordinator is also responsible for the management of infection surveillance and prevention in both patients and employees, in conjunction with Occupational Health. Writes and/or reviews infection prevention policies on an annual basis. Participates in and leads Joint Commission committees as necessary. Monitors and reports communicable diseases to the appropriate agencies as necessary. Works with pharmacy as needed to coordinate with Medical Staff reviews of clinical use of antibiotics and to implement all antibiotic stewardship requirements. Orients new employees to appropriate infection prevention practices and as requested by the directors. Coordinate planning, implementation, and evaluation of organizational compliance with all regulatory/licensing standards and ongoing readiness for survey. Takes a supportive role to Department Directors and other Leaders to ensure facility compliance with Joint Commission standards. Provides standards interpretation as needed. Actively identifies areas of concern and participates in Continuous Quality Improvement. Serves as a resource to staff at all levels, in the development and implementation of processes designed to monitor compliance with standards. Leads regular meetings with leadership to promote JC readiness.
