Registered Nurse Birthing Center
Hours: Full-Time; 7pm – 7am
Education Requirements: A graduate from an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa (or) a graduate from an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed as a Registered Nurse able to work in the state of Iowa.
Requirements: Required to be current in BLS (Basic Life Support) by the standards of the American Heart Association. Required to show proof of having completed Mandatory Reporter course at time of hire or attend within 6 months of start date. Required to be certified in NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) within one year of hire. Under supervision of preceptor, must have Birthing Center orientation entailing vaginal labor/delivery cases, cesarean section cases, post partum and newborn care. The exact time will be based upon each R.N.’s necessary learning needs. OB experience preferred.
Duties: The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Coordinates patient education and activities of interdisciplinary personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing in accordance with the established methods and procedures of Mahaska Health. Provides nursing care to women of childbearing age, their fetus and/or neonate in the hospital setting during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. Provides care to post-operative GYN patients.
Works every 3rd weekend; Required to assist in other areas of the hospital during times of low census on the unit; 30 minute response time if placed on-call.
