Flu Vaccination Clinics

Patients can walk-in Wednesdays from Sept. 20 through Oct. 25 to entrance #4. Regular vaccines are $35, high dose for those 65 and older are $70. Cash is accepted or insurance can be billed. MHP also participates in the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program. Please note: Based on recommendations from the Centers of Disease Control, MHP will not have flu mist. MHP Breast Cancer Awareness Activities

October 6 - 17, 2017

The American Cancer Society estimates that 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop invasive breast cancer during her lifetime. To raise awareness and contribute to the cause, MHP has planned the following activities:

Awareness Walk - Friday, Oct. 6

Give your lunch hour to a good cause by walking from Noon - 1 pm on the Square in Oskaloosa (rain location: Penn Central Mall) in order to raise awareness for breast cancer. With a $25 per person donation, each participant will receive registration for the walk and a long-sleeve commemorative T-shirt. Your support is appreciated whether you can walk all or part of the time. Registration is due for the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk by Wednesday, Sept. 27. T-shirts will be available for pick-up on Thursday, Oct. 5 inside entrance #1 on the MHP campus from 1 - 5 pm. If you are unable to pick up your shirt ahead of time, they will be available at the walk.

FREE Women's Breast Health Night - Tuesday, Oct. 17

Hosted at the Gateway Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa, 6:30 - 8:00 pm. This evening is a fun, educational opportunity where women can gather to learn more about protecting themselves from breast cancer while enjoying fabulous food and door prizes. This year's program will feature MHP Family Practice and Obstetrics Physician Angela Godejohn, MD. This event is free but space is limited so pre-registration is required.


Free Fall Prevention Workshop

Your risk of injury from falling increases as you age. Not only are falls costly, but those who fall once are up to three times more likely to fall again. At this free workshop, MHP Physical and Occupational Therapy can help individuals assess their risk for falls and offer exercise tips to build strength and reduce the chance of injury. While the event is free, pre-registration is required by calling 641.672.3306. There will be four stations focusing on risk factors and how to prevent falls, for a total of a one-hour workshop session. Caregivers are encouraged to attend with their loved ones.

Free Diabetes Health Fair

To recognize November as National Diabetes Month, the Oskaloosa Lions Club is teaming up with Mahaska Health Partnership to sponsor a FREE diabetes health fair. Those currently confirmed to attend the free health fair include:

  • MHP Podiatrist Mark Beers, who will screen for blood flow in vessels of the lower leg and foot
  • MHP Diabetes Educator Sharon Ferguson, who will provide blood glucose screenings
  • MHP Registered Dietitian Lea Rice, discussing healthy eating and diabetes
  • MHP Physical and Occupational Therapy, assessing balance deficits common for people with diabetes
  • Oskaloosa Lions Club, providing free File of Life health cards and talking about how Lions Clubs International is taking on the worldwide diabetes epidemic
  • SHARE Iowa, providing healthy snacks and information about their services
  • Oskaloosa Vision Center, highlighting the importance of eye care for those with diabetes
  • Eye Care Partners with information on eye health related to diabetes
  • Fareway will hand out information and samples
  • Hy-Vee Dietitian Taylor Grgurich, with a grocery store list of diabetic-friendly foods
  • Mahaska County YMCA, providing information
  • Novo Nordisk, a leader in insulin therapy, showing the ease in use of insulin
  • Medtronic Diabetes, a leader in insulin pump therapy, showing the latest in insulin equipment
