Meet our Iowa Governor Volunteer Award Program recipients.
Sandy has been a volunteer here at Mahaska Health for 13 years! When she first started, she was a volunteer in our Gift Shop, Whispering Tree Gifts. Not too long ago, Langfitt had mentioned that Dr. Hiatt’s office is always needing volunteers, Sandy jumped at the offer. According to Langfitt, Sandy likes to stay busy, so she is a great fit for Dr. Hiatt’s clinic! Langfitt commented that, “Sandy is always very polite and caring.” These attributes are very well appreciated in Hiatt’s office!
Mary Johnson has been a volunteer with us at Mahaska Health for 6 years! Mary ensures that our patients at Door 4 get not only to the correct area of the hospital but will escort them if they are unfamiliar with the hospital or need assistance in a wheelchair. Mary plays a vital role in making sure that our patients are greeted with a friendly smile and in a very efficient manner! Kim Langfitt, volunteer coordinator said, “I have known Mary Johnson for many years! When she decided to start volunteering, I was excited to have her. She is very dependable and always polite and caring.”
Patti Mitrisin has been volunteering at Mahaska Health for 10 years now! When Patti started volunteering for us, she helped in our gift shop but has since acquired a change of scenery! Patti now volunteers in the Surgery Department’s waiting area. She not only ensures that all our surgery patients family members are taken care of and comfortable as they wait but Patti is there to ease concerns, support and provide conversation for these family members. Kim Langfitt commented, “Patti greets all the patients with a smile and friendly attitude; she never fails to be kind and caring.”
Bonnie Vos has been volunteering her valuable time here at Mahaska Health and the Serenity House for 31 years! Bonnie is volunteering her time at the Serenity House and providing compassion and grace in serving the patients and families in certainly difficult times. Volunteer coordinator Kim Langfitt shared, “Bonnie has volunteered for many years. She is the sweetest, most kind volunteer. She is very dedicated to the Serenity House, employees and families. She has volunteered every Wednesday afternoon for as long as I can remember. Her heart is truly with hospice and she loves to interact with the family and employees!”
