Paul Riggs, MD, FACS, has been serving the Mahaska community since 1985. A native of Illinois and after receiving his training in Kansas, Dr. Riggs chose Mahaska county because of its need for a surgeon to serve the community. Dr. Riggs has always enjoyed science, biology and chemistry, which lead him toward a pre-med education. Through hand-manipulation hobbies like playing the piano and Labyrinth games commonly found in waiting rooms, a young Paul was led toward an interested in surgery.
Paul is well known for his kindness, care and surgical expertise through years of experience. He approaches patients with a belief that the body is an intricate creation that can have anatomical problems often improved through surgery. However, non-operative healthcare solutions often have positive results and only when surgery is truly indicated should a patient be taken to the operating room.
Dr. Riggs has enjoyed many surgical mission trips to South America and has a desire to simply serve those he’s around. He stays active by running summer triathlons and enjoys bike rides wherever possible.
